Coachella Valley “Quake Risk” Webinar

Earthquake Country Alliance and the Coachella Valley Disaster Preparedness Network are presenting a special webinar about Coachella Valley earthquake risk, including how to reduce damage and other losses, 10-11am on March 31, 2021.

The presentation is a tribute to Dr. Dennis Mileti, former director of the Natural Hazards Center in Colorado who studied how to motivate preparedness behavior and response to warning messages. He retired to Rancho Mirage more than a decade ago and was active in encouraging earthquake preparedness in the region. Sadly, Dr. Mileti died in late January of complications from COVID-19, shortly after planning to present this webinar.
Dr. Mileti was a professional mentor for ECA Executive Director Mark Benthien, and also a close friend. You can learn more about Dennis in a tribute article written by Mark about his research and influence, including his encouragement to form what became the Earthquake Country Alliance, and how Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills are based on his work.
Mark has been asked to present his materials for this webinar in his place; they worked together on the presentation so he knows it very well. If you are a resident of the Coachella Valley or not, the presentation will provide key steps you or others you share the information with can take to be prepared to survive and recover.
